Calm Births

SCROLL DOWN

Calm Births

As an experienced Midwife, Mum of 3, Hypnotherapist and HypnoBirthing Practitioner, I am passionate about birth and empowering women to welcome their baby in a calm, positive way

Hypnobirthing in Berkshire & Hampshire

Having studied and worked as an NHS Midwife for 10 years before becoming a HypnoBirthing Practitioner, I have had the honour of attending many births and caring for many families from all walks of life. I am passionate about the birthing process, and about how HypnoBirthing can make that process such a beautiful, calm experience for EVERY woman.  I combine my knowledge of Midwifery, Hypnotherapy and Motherhood so that I can offer education, experience and support to families on their journey to welcoming their baby in a calm, safe and gentle way.

Contrary to popular belief, HypnoBirthing doesn't involve any pendulums, staring into my eyes or dancing like a chicken (promise!) In fact, I have written about dispelling common myths of HypnoBirthing here.

Put simply, HypnoBirthing is a birth education programme designed to help you achieve the calm, gentle and safe birth that your body was designed for - no matter what turns your birthing might take.  My classes are informal and relaxed, and tailored to you and your needs. Join in with a group in Reading or Wokingham, Berkshire - or individual classes in the privacy of your own home in Berkshire or surrounds. Meet up regularly with other Hypno-Mums and Mums-to-be and share advice, support, birth stories and cake. Lots. Of. Cake.

I believe that the combination of 10 years experience as a Midwife, lots of Mummy miles clocked up and being a Certified HypnoBirthing Practitioner enable me to empower women to achieve the birth they desire. Let me begin your journey with you to an empowered, calm birth.

This course has made me look at birthing completely differently. I no longer feel worried or nervous, I just feel prepared & ready to birth naturally

I now feel confident, prepared and in control of what is ahead of us. I can’t wait to help my Wife birth our first child.

About the course

About the course

What is it?

The Mongan Method of HypnoBirthing™ is the original method of HypnoBirthing, designed 25 years ago by Marie Mongan. The a course consists of 5 sessions of 2 1/2 hours each, and lots of relaxation practice at home for you & your chosen birth partner.

You will learn how to take yourself away into a deep space of relaxation whenever and wherever you wish, whilst remaining alert & in control.

You will learn how and why birthing doesn't need to be painful, about the physiology and hormones involved and what you can do to be in control of your birth. These tools, along with other techniques for birthing, will empower you to have the safe, calm and gentle birth you deserve.

We will also cover:

  • How to reduce the need for medication.
  • How to release any fears or negative feelings you may have around birth
  • How to naturally start your labour when baby is ready
  • Breathing techniques to birth your baby
  • A simple massage technique  to avoid the chances of episiotomy
  • How to stay calm and in control of your baby's birthing
  • What a birth partner can do and say to help you in labour (this is a TEAM effort!)

Who is it for?

Who is it for?

Anyone & Everyone!

You may pregnant with your first baby, and  feeling rather anxious about the unknown prospect of labour and birth. You may want to learn as much as you can about the process, and fully arm yourself with all the relevant tips and tricks to have the best birth for you. You may want to have the full support of someone who knows their stuff and cares about you and your birth experience, during and after your baby arrives.

This may not be your first baby - you may have had previous births that just didn't go how you planned, and have left you feeling anxious about this next baby. Perhaps you have decided that this time things are going to be different, that you are going to take control of this birth and even enjoy it.

Ideally it is for Mummy-to-be and the person you have chosen to be your birth partner, as we devote a lot of time to what the birth partner can do to support you.

WHEN SHOULD I START?

The programme works best when started between 20 & 35 weeks of pregnancy, and is just as relevant whether it is your first baby or you have given birth previously. However if you are further along in your pregnancy, it is always possible to make special arrangements with you, just give me a call or email.

ISN'T THIS JUST ABOUT ACHIEVING A 'NORMAL' BIRTH?

Nope. The course is educational, beneficial and empowering for women experiencing any kind of delivery in any kind of setting. In fact some of HypnoBirthing's greatest advocates are those who, for varying reasons, had surgical births. The techniques that they had learned in class equipped them with the tools they needed to relax, remain calm and able to enjoy their birth experience.

Hannah made me feel really relaxed from the minute I met her, and she was happy for me to ask endless amounts of questions. She’s really helped me to overcome any fear I had.

What are the benefits?

What are the benefits?

the birth you want

Other than the fact that you will feel in control, calm and pretty darned amazing once you have taken the course?

Aside from the fact that you will both look forward to the birth of your baby once I've finished with you?

After the point that you will remain feeling calm and in control throughout your labour and birth?

Oh and forgetting the fact that your baby will be born in a safe, gentle way and will respond to you in a calm, gentle way? (And, incidentally will be born with better Apgar scores, be a better feeder and better sleeper) (Just sayin')

Well, the statistics say that as a HypnoBirthing Mumma you will experience:

  • Less chance of an instrumental or surgical birth
  • A Shorter labour
  • Less pain in labour
  • Less fatigue during labour
  • Less need for episiotomy & less risk of perineal damage
  • Your chosen birth partner will also feel calm and in control and able to help you.
  • Much less risk of postnatal depression
  • Less chance of a malpositioned baby
